For me, this idea sprang from the desire to make more of the holiday gift experience. Gift giving has always been a challenge for me. The true inspiration came from one gift that hit the mark. My wife and I gave my father-in-law a charitable donation to a cause that was very near and dear to his heart, the World War II Memorial Fund. It brought a tear to his eye, which is saying a lot. He was a man of simple pleasures; his family, his friends, golf, chocolate malts, and candy bars. He received countless blessings and gifts in his lifetime, but like most of us, he had enough stuff. It was the first of several donations that we discovered over the years which were carefully chosen based on his past experiences, current issues and values. Each one appreciated very much.
